We offer annually full time bursaries and scholarships to work with the following research clusters:
European Social & Cultural Theory
Film and Media
Francophone Studies
History, Culture and Development in the Americas
Language Across Borders
Memory Cultures
Policy, Politics, Justice and Security in Europe
Postcolonial and Colonial Studies
Social, Historical and Cultural Change in Europe
Textual Theory & Practice
Women’s and Gender Studies
In addition we have a transdisciplinary project on Transnational European Union. This focuses on the formation of transnational networks and epistemic communities of policy-makers, parties, non-governmental organisations and sub-state actors at all levels. A particular focus has hitherto been on party cooperation and symbolic political interaction. It also extends to West and North Africa and European links with those regions. It is led by Professor Wolfram Kaiser. Applications for bursaries in this area will also be welcomed.
Eligibility
Applicants for Postgraduate Research Bursaries should have at least a good upper second class honours degree or equivalent. Applicants with masters degrees are welcome. In parallel with their application for a CEISR bursary, applicants will also be expected to apply to the relevant external funding body (AHRC, ESRC) for fees or a bursary, as applicable.
How to apply
We are currently offering two CEISR funded bursaries. We also have an ESRC quota award starting October 07.
Applicants should submit an application form and a CV (including the names of 2 academic referees) plus a 1,500 word research proposal indicating the following:
- Subject area
- How the topic will break new ground
- Methodology
- A clear timetable
- Proposed research questions
